Department of Corporations Announces New Commissioner

William P. Wood Assumes Office at California's Investment and Financing Authority


 

Sacramento, December 19, 2003 — The Department of Corporations today announced the appointment of William P. Wood as the Commissioner of the Department of Corporations.

"I'm honored that Governor Schwarzenegger has placed me in this vital position," said Commissioner William P. Wood. "Whether it's protecting the ability of Californians to finance their homes confident that their assets are secure or ensuring that financial services firms find California a friendly place to do business, I look forward to implementing the Governor's vision for economic recovery."

William Wood comes to the Department after 4 years at the Office of the Secretary of State, where he was Chief Counsel under two Secretaries of State. His responsibilities included policy and legal aspects of the agency's election and corporate activities. His background in government service and law enforcement also includes 5 years as Deputy District Attorney for Sacramento County.

The Department of Corporations is California's Investment and Financing Authority, reporting to the Business, Transportation and Housing Agency and the Governor. The Department is responsible for the regulation, enforcement and licensing of securities, franchises, off-exchange commodities, investment and financial services, independent escrows, consumer and commercial finance lending and residential mortgage lending.
