Senate Confirms Demetrios A. Boutris as California Corporations Commissioner
Sacramento, May 25, 2001 — The California Senate confirmed Demetrios A. Boutris to serve as California Corporations Commissioner. Governor Gray Davis appointed Boutris to the post on January 29, 2001. Boutris also serves as Special Counsel to the Governor.
The Department of Corporations is California's Investment and Financing Authority. The Department licenses and regulates a variety of businesses that affect the lives of Californians and represent a significant part of the state's economy. Included in the 250,000 entities the Department regulates are securities brokers and dealers, investment advisers and financial planners, and certain fiduciaries and lenders. In addition, the Department regulates the offer and sale of securities, franchises and off-exchange commodities.
