Office of Public Affairs

The Office of Public Affairs (OPA) is part of the Executive Office (EXEC) of the California Corporations Commissioner. OPA is headed by a Deputy Commissioner who is the Department's Chief Communications Officer (CCO) and has responsibility for coordinating all of the Department's internal and external communications on behalf of the Commissioner.

By law, the Department of Corporations is charged with educating the public on matters relating to finance and investment. In keeping with the mission of the Department, OPA assists the Enforcement Division (ENF) by informing the public about unscrupulous operators in the financial marketplace. OPA also assists the Securities Regulation Division (SRD) and the Financial Services Division (FSD) with their communication with the public and regulated industries. Furthermore, OPA helps open the door to financial security for all Californians by coordinating the State's education of vulnerable populations regarding the risks and rewards of investing.
