Consumer Credit Counseling Industry — Conducting a Study

The Department of Corporations is conducting a study of the consumer credit counseling industry in California, as directed by AB 2293 (Chap. 779, Stats. 2002). AB 2293 requires the Department to make recommendations to the Legislature on or before March 1, 2003 regarding the establishment of fees for debt management and debt settlement plans. As part of the study, the Department is conducting a survey of consumer credit counseling organizations, a survey of consumer groups, and a survey of debtors. The Department encourages members of these groups to participate in the study and respond to the surveys by January 31, 2003.
