The Commissioner of Corporations

Commissioner Jan Lynn OwenJan Lynn Owen was appointed Commissioner of the California Department of Corporations on December 27, 2011, by Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr.

Previously, Ms. Owen was the principal at The Jan Owen Group since 2010. She was also a strategic initiatives manager at Apple Inc. from 2009 to 2010, vice president of government affairs at JP Morgan Chase from 2008 to 2009, state director of government and industry affairs at Washington Mutual Inc. from 2002 to 2008 and executive director of the California Mortgage Bankers Association from 2000 to 2002.

Ms. Owen also has extensive experience in public service.  She was acting commissioner of the Department of Financial Institutions from 1999 to 2000, after serving as deputy commissioner from 1996 to 1999. Ms. Owen also served as Executive Director of the Department of Insurance’s California Organized Investment Network program after serving several years as consultant to the State Senate Banking Committee.

Ms. Owen is also a proud alumnus of California State University, Fresno, where she earned her degree in Economics. She currently lives in West Sacramento with her husband and son.

 

Office of the Commissioner

The Office of the Commissioner of Corporations was established and became effective on November 1, 1913. Chapter 353, Statutes 1913.
