- The Department has authority over finance lenders and brokers, who in 2011, made or assisted in the making of about $139 billion in consumer and commercial Finance loans
- The Department also regulates mortgage bankers who made $63 billion in home loans to Californians in 2011, and who serviced $247 billion in home loans during that year.
- Since 2001, the Department has brought approximately 6,314 enforcement actions against people or companies perpetrating frauds, making misrepresentations, and pursuing predatory practices.
- The Department regulates over 365,510 entities, including:
- 3,089 broker-dealers,
- 285,623 agents or registered representatives,
- 3,616 investment advisers,
- 51,148 investment adviser representatives or associated persons,
- 922 independent escrow agents,
- 2,056 consumer and commercial Finance lenders and 4,385 locations,
- 331 residential mortgage lenders or mortgage bankers,
- 332 deferred deposit originators at 2,097 locations, and
- 18,393 mortgage loan originators
